Aha so there is a problem

Now I know what’s been going on with the internet connection the last couple of days. From ThaiVisa forum:
If you call the true High speed internet customer service line now, You
get a recording saying that CAT telecom has a fault and it is affecting
all internet traffic in thailand..
It’ll probably take a week or two to change from this current awful connection to the previous just-plain-bad connection.
Also a bit of an update on the other alternatives I was looking to check out beginning of 2008 -
1. CSLoxinfo - after checking with them three times and being told that yes I could use their service, when we finally said sign us up it turns out they’re not able to offer broadband in my area.
2. KSC - after being told in November and December that new subscriptions will be possible starting January 15th, we’re now told they aren’t available yet and might take another month.
3. CAT - no word at all from them after repeated attempts (in English and Thai) to find out if they offer boradband in my building.
Not much more I can do other than make some significant changes to how I trade. Maybe I need to look in that direction alongside trying to do the best with the current connection.

…or move closer to Sukhumwit / Silom areas… If there is a high speed connection in Thailand, it should be there. Alternatively, team up with some other frustrated farangs, and finance a private underwater cable from Singapore :-)
Moving isn’t really an option for the near future, maybe after I complete a year here I may look at that. Preferably not around Suk though, the pollution there is quite bad. Will need to find somewhere where I can get at least 2 different connection options. Hopefully even a cable + ADSL.
From the impression I got farangs in Thailand often can hardly finance themselves ;-)
Strange thing, I’m getting lots of websites that aren’t displaying properly. Mainly images are missing and formatting/fonts/colours (CSS?) not loading. But not on all sites. I checked this across 3 browsers and finally noticed that when using a proxy the sites load up ok. I wonder if that’s because of the ISP proxies screwing up things.
Just saw this news article about damage to underwater cables.
