The Associated Press: Israel shells near UN school, killing at least 30

Dr. Bassam Abu Warda, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, said 36 people were killed in the Israeli strike on the U.N. school in Jebaliya. The United Nations confirmed 30 were killed and 55 injured by tank shells.

In a statement, the Israeli army said an initial investigation found that “mortar shells were fired from within the school at IDF soldiers. The force responded with mortars at the source of fire. The Hamas cynically uses civilians as human shields.”

The army said two Hamas militants — Imad Abu Askar and Hasan Abu Askar — were among the dead.

Two neighborhood residents confirmed the Israeli account, saying a group of militants fired mortars from a street near the school, then fled into a crowd of people in the streets. Israel then opened fire.

The residents, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they feared for their safety, said the Abu Askar brothers were known low-level Hamas militants.

Typical tidbits characterising this current war:

1. Palestinians deceitfully exaggerate casualty figures in order to influence world opinion.

2. Hamas terrorists fire and use civilians as human shield.

3. Israel targeting Hamas militants, not civilians. The school was a safe place during 2 weeks of battles till it was used as firing grounds by Hamas.

4. Average Palestinians themselves are terrified of the Hamas.

5. The title of the article talks about Israel killing, not about Hamas terrorists illegal use of civilians and UN facilities, and the tragedy they are causing their people.

Unfortunately for the Palestinians, very few people really care about their fate, most just care about media rating or having another opportunity to bash Israel. In reality, the likes of Aljazeera and world Muslim demonstrations are harming Palestinian’s chance for a state of their own and a normal life by legitimizing terrorist groups like Hamas which answer to Syria and Iran instead of being true to Palestinian interests.
