An ear to the trading pit

I recently signed up to the TradeTheMarkets daily video podcasts. They have a very different style from what I do, which makes it interesting to occasionally listen to and get a different perspective on things. When I just started out I’d devour this sort of information by the tonnage but after a while I shut almost all of it out from my area of focus. There are so many different trading methods and styles out there that it can be quite confusing, it can also throw you in different directions if you don’t have a profitable method that fits you locked down. I’ve not found anything yet that I can integrate into my trading but I’ll keep on checking them out for a while for fresh ideas.

This Tape Reading lessons 11/08/2007 is just one example of a video podcast. It was an interesting one to see and especially hear, they use a feed from the S&P trading pit and monitor it for timing the exit of the last 1/4 of a position. It was pretty intense and exciting to hear and also kindda fun but I think if I were to trade this way I’d probably have a nervous breakdown within a week. Might be useful for others though.

    Hi Eyal,
How’s the internet connection doing now? I am curious as to why many traders use Interactive Brokers. In Canada, TB charges .01 c a share, but I often find flat rate 10 dollar trades are cheaper as day trading with leverage can get you trading thousands of shares.

Also, for a new trader, have you got a few internet resources you would recommend?

Hi Eric, the connection is still quite bad. Lags badly on the good days and has outages on the bad days.

Donno about others but I use IB because it has very low commissions and a powerful trading application. I’m sure some are attracted to the ability to access lots of markets and instruments from one account.

    What sort of internet resources?

    Hi Eyal,

Thanks. I am thinking of switching to IB after all the Etrade drama (now ETFC would have made some good trading).

For the internet resources, I am familiar with Maoxian’s dummy lessons but was wondering if you had any other sites that gave good examples of trading?
