Calorie-Burning Soft Drink

This is going to sound like something out of uglychart.com ;-) but I actually started drinking quite a lot of green tea, both hot and cold and it is quite invigorating. Not sure about the thermogenic effects yet but if nothing else at least it’s a good antioxidant with no calories. So now there’s a new drink coming up claiming to burn calories which is based on green tea and which will be promoted by the Coca Cola company.. so here’s a sip to green tea!

Enviga is a sparkling tea containing green tea extracts, calcium, and caffeine, and was conceived by Beverage Partners Worldwide (BPW), a joint venture between Nestle and Coca-Cola. Research shows that epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), an antioxidant present in green tea, has the ability to speed up metabolism and increase energy use, especially when combined with caffeine. Studies have shown that when EGCG and caffeine are present at the levels comparable to that in three cans of Enviga, healthy subjects in the lean to normal weight range can experience an average increase in calorie burning by 60 – 100 calories.”

It’s important to tell the other side of the story as well, so for the sake of your readers I’ll paste from an article in today’s paper regarding fried coke. They can then judge for themselves which is better:

“The gooey Coke-battered nuggets topped with cola syrup won the “most creative” title at the Texas state fair in Dallas last month.”

Strangely, these fried coke nuggets sound horribly delicious and disgusting at the same time..
