Relocating to another country is always a pain in the neck. The multitude of things you need to take of, especially if you’re not moving alone is mind boggling. From dealing rent / house, utlitity / cables / internet / mobile phones bills, banking, visas, travel itineraries, pets and their permits, magazine subscriptions, driving license conversion, import / export customs and deciding what to bring what to leave behind etc. etc. and I’ve not even touched on kids and schools (which thankfully are not on my list). The last thing in the world you need is problems with your movers. And that’s exactly what I’ve been having in the past couple of months. Dealing with Interport “Executive” Movers in Singapore has been an ongoing nightmare! The kind you hear about happening to other people. Initially it all seemed great and quite professional, and then the switch came over AFTER they picked up all our stuff. Instead of the original price we agreed upon I received an invoice for about 30% more, why? The official excuse was an increase in shipping rates, where on earth was that written as a condition to their quote? Nowhere. Is there any way to verify this? Not really. For the next month or two trying to reach the relevant person resulted in “she’s not around”, “she’s busy” and no responses to my emails. Now that’s 2 months in which all my stuff is lying in some warehouse and I have to do with whatever fit in a couple of suitcases. Finally calling in under someone else’s name I got hold of my contact person at Interport which is actually the company owner Maryanne Teo and after 2 sentences she refused to talk to me and transferred the phone to someone who’s never heard of me or my case. At the end, in order to get my stuff out of there not only I needed to pay the 30% extra but, wait for it, I got charged for 2 months storage! While they avoided contact with me! So my alternative was to either drop everything here and fly back to Singapore and go into a long process of pressing charges in a small claims court or swallow it. Not exaclty a lot of options there.
In any case, if anyone out there is looking to move to or out of Singapore and looking for a relocation or forwarding company (the door-to-door) type then make sure you stay away from Interport.

Eyal – friend of mine had a similar issue, but with a telecomms co. He created a website, posted all his correspendence on the site, and didn’t take it down until he had received an apology. In this case it affected his credit record. Point is, the organisation took notice, and while the process took time, he got what he wanted! Good luck. D
Thanks for the comment DL. I’ve made this post into a page on the right side. I’ll have more to update on this soon :)
