It’s that time of the month again and I see some people are sharing their results so here’s an update from me. The equity curve in the clickable thumbnail below is what trading results for May look like. The month started OK, then went nowhere and then started grinding down till yesterday the very last day of the month. On all days trading was pretty much on plan as usual, but sometimes the market just isn’t suitable for some trading styles which I think was the case for the majority of this month for me. There were lots of fake-outs, whipsaws, no follow-throughs etc. Maybe it’s the summer doldrums arriving early or something else, who knows. After an unusually strong April though I can’t quite complain.
Win rate btw, was slightly above historical average at 46.55% but expectancy was unsually low at only 0.17. That’s the nature of this business, you get the good months, the less good ones and sometimes the downright ugly ones. Maintaining a healthy mental state, not jumping from one strategy to another but still keeping a finger on the pulse is the name of the game.

On track for 100r+ year. Good job.
The action has definitely slowed down the last few days and the VIX hit a new yearly low at the middle of this month. I’m guessing some big banks or homebuilders will start to fail which should increase the volatility.
I’m watching these stocks Monday for potential breakouts: HES, AGU, CF, JRCC (compliments of Stewie) I usually stick to my basket stocks but when most stocks are rangebound like Friday, I think it’s important to make sure the stock your trading has unusual volume.
Do you count break even trades as wins?
Thanks yo.
Rick – win rate is tracked by stocktickr automatically so anything above 0 is counted as a win and anything below 0 is a loss (after commissions).
Ok, thanks. That’s how I’ve been doing my stats also. Last month was my best month but I still have to prove to myself that I can be consistent.
