NYSE vs. NASDAQ

OK, I’ve been meaning to write something about this for a while. Nothing really too revolutionary - but then I never did promise anything revolutionary ;-)

So what’s the difference IMHO between Naz and Listed? Well it’s a bit like the difference between living in Hong Kong and New Zealand. Naz stocks, like Hong Kong, are fast and got a buzz while listed stocks, like New Zealand, are calmer and slower. This also extends to the feelings and experience trading them. With Naz stocks you can either have a fantastic blast or a real nasty experience while with listed you’re either riding comfortably or finding it too boring. With the dummy kind of trading I didn’t feel any disadvantage in trading listed stocks, my fills were fine and sometimes had nice price improvement (especially when taking partial profits with limit orders) - the other order types I used were stop limit to get in, stops for stop loss and market on close for end of day.

So which is better? Well that depends of course on the individual and their trading style and preferences. There’s definitely money to be made (and lost) in both types of exchanges. I would recommend people keep an open mind, try both and see which one they’re doing better in. At the end of the day, that’s the only thing that counts.
