One of the steps Singapore has taken as part of its (commendable) action plan to keep Singapore competitive is launching what is known in typical Singaporean abbreviation, as the “IR” - the Integrated Resort, which basically means opening two casinos with some other supporting establishments and entertainment venues around it. Singapore will do well in the next few years
Recounting his recent visit to Las Vegas, the Minister Mentor says the owner of the Venetian, Sheldon Adelson, is able to fill the hotel rooms even in the hot summer months. “He believes the hotels will not be enough in Singapore so others will have to come up. Why has he got the confidence? Because he knows this place is stable, this place is well run and there’ll be no gangsters, no pimps, no drug traffickers around the casino,” he says.
So will the visitors still show up? ;-)
